Love this read, but as somebody who has decided to go off social media (barring Substack) your page is truly one that I have missed! I think it speaks volumes to the impact of your work. But I also recognise that not everybody can be a Mia McGrath.

Will be coming back to this post as I resume my newsletter next month (took some time off due to a family bereavement). Your advice is perfect and 100% correct; we're living in the digital age now and visibility matters.

Thank you for sharing this — it resonated.

I work in a traditional corporate environment, one w agency and maybe where the creator economy is often dismissed as “cringe.” At this point, the extrinsic rewards of the creator economy increasingly supersede those of many traditional “reputable” paths, making a compelling case on their own. I’ve also come to see that “cringe” is often just social conditioning — sometimes from those who wish they’d tried, but take themselves too seriously to risk being seen.

Visibility creates surface area for luck, opportunity, and independence. Building something of your own becomes an asset no employer can take away. More power to you!

Hi Mia , I enjoyed reading this .At the end of the day , it 's really just a matter of how you choose to engage with online .We have the agency to decide whether to scroll ,engage or create things. As long as we're being intentional to ourselves ,identifying these external influences then we can choose how we want to play the game.

Well said and a good point. Not all social media is bad it’s how we use it that is
